Day trips from travel agencies encouraged us to follow in their footsteps and embark on a small adventure on our own, this time towards the picturesque Stanjel.

Located in Kras, in western Slovenia, it is one of the oldest settlements in the area, which we reach without paying a toll. And yes, it's worth it!

We parked the car right under the entrance to the city. The parking lot is normally charged, but we were greeted by a small hike – the machine did not work. ⁇

At the first step, Stanjel conquered us: winding cobblestones, plenty of greenery, irresistible wreaths of fresh flowers made and sold by hardworking women. The price? Sympathetic 30 euros!

All together, it makes the atmosphere look like a fairy tale, and the panoramic views from the city walls simply leave you breathless.

It's a little unbelievable that we haven't even heard of this place before, and it hides so much beauty.

the Ferrari Garden

He was particularly impressed by us. the Ferrari Garden, the work of a famous architect Max Fabiani. The garden is perfectly integrated into the karst landscape – terraces connected by stone stairs, small pools, elegant pergolas and a view that extends far across the valleys and vineyards.

Entrance is free and the experience is priceless – an ideal place to relax, take photos, soak up the atmosphere.

If Štanjel has a heart, it is – right here. ⁇

After a walk and rest in the shade of the garden, we climbed to the top of Štanjel, to the lookout point.

From above, we observed the endless karst valleys, vineyards and red roofs of the old settlement.

We refreshed ourselves in the central square with coffee and homemade juice.

Damage Branik

We went for lunch a few miles away. Damage Branik, where we enjoyed the rich meat and fish platter that satisfied all our senses. ⁇

In the end, we were served a dessert, which, as we later received, we forgot to charge.

Rihemberk Castle

We also visited Rihemberk Castle, which rises on a hill above Branik. The ticket for the castle is 7 €, and today it also acts as an interpretation center.

We watched a film about the history of the castle, and the life and customs of the people who lived here. After sightseeing the area around the castle, we headed towards its tower, where we climbed the narrow stone stairs to the very top.

What a spectacular view!

We conclude the tour in Lidl in Illyrian Bistrica, with the comment that the prices of individual items are significantly lower than with us.
