At the beginning of September 2024, with the combination of extremely unusual circumstances that we will not describe here, the path of finding a suitable place for celebrating one birthday led us from Lokve through Delnice, Brod na Kupi and Prezid k the Sea Konjicek in the beer. Delighted with food and prices, we decided to travel again to the Slovenian neighbourhood to mark another birthday.
Our destination is Illyrian Bistrica through which we usually only lightly drive on the way to Knežak and further into the depths of Slovenian territory or visit it with the intention of performing a batch more favorable compared to these crazy prices in Croatia.
Illyrian Bistrica
We walked through the place where it flows. Reka, the largest Slovenian underground river that springs in Croatia, plunges into Škocjanske caves in Slovenia and re-emerges in Italy.
Sušec waterfall It is a nice place to take a photo, take a break from an easy walk and enjoy nature. During the summer heat, it certainly has an additional charm (if it does not lack water), so we will remember it and visit it at +30 C.
We also visited the remains of a late antique fort that was built as part of the the Julian Wall in the shadow of the Roman Empire. There is nothing to see except a beautiful view of the village and the memory of the fact that we walk through an area of long and turbulent history.
We continue our walk east of the center of Ilirska Bistrica, in the hamlet of Zarečje, along the macadam path of the old mill and back, through meadows and groves with air filled with freshness.
A pleasant walk of 5-6 kilometers is just an introductory exploration that calls for a return and a larger walking or cycling tour of this area.
Lunch in the House of Bubec
On the farm there is a fish farm where the hosts grow trout, so this fish is also our choice for lunch.
The specialty is smoked trout, we have to taste it! Homemade bread and desserts are a nice addition to a delicious meal.
For consumption at home, we bought homemade eggs and fresh and smoked trout suitably packed in a vacuum-packed casing.
Illyrian Bistrica deserves to be given additional attention in the future as lovers of nature, walking and homemade food. ⁇
