It was raining tonight and we were afraid of the mud. We need to walk the beaten paths, so we went to the still insufficiently explored Labin.
They are famous for the great pizzeria Rumore, which we already checked, and in a quick tour we concluded then that it is worth getting to know him in more detail.
Of course, our refined palate does not mind that this time we will be rewarded with pizza in the same place after fulfilling the condition: walking on a mileage-appropriate walking route.
Sunday morning is quiet. We parked at the entrance to Labin, in a residential settlement, and headed towards the Mine - Fighter Monument, a symbol of the sacrifice and courage of the miners who once worked in the mines of this area and launched the world's first anti-fascist uprising. This is a reminder of the hard working history and a big THANK YOU to all those who shaped the mining and revolutionary history of the city and the entire Labin area.
Beautifully conceived, made and renovated, but it is already evident that metal panels are not the happiest solution.
The road we set for ourselves leads to Rabac, but this time, we will not. We come to the lookout point, from which we turn towards the village of Presika. The weather is sunny, clear, Rabac in the distance as in the palm of your hand.
We also hoped for asparagus, but the local says there was no rain at their place.
We end our walk in nature on the main square, with coffee in the “Velo Kafe“.
And now we're going urban, the Alley of the Great to the old town. Through narrow cobblestones, we explored the city’s main sights, many of which date back to Venice – the City Loggia, the Battiala-Lazzarini Palace, the National Museum of Labin; Podestat Palace, The Church of St. Stephen.
We're thrilled. Everything's so neat, clean. A town that is very “tailor-made”, size, cleanliness, position. We can imagine living here. ⁇
Our last stop is the square in front of the Labin City Library, which was opened in 2013 in the former administrative building of the mine.
The revitalization of the Labin mine took place through a series of initiatives financed from various sources. We hope that 40 Heritage Miners continue the tradition of mining for assets that are essential for the lasting sustainable revaluation of mining legacies.
Let us not forget that the armed rebellion of the miners of Labin area in 1921 is known as ‘Republic of Labin“, was the first organized anti-fascist rebellion in the world and the first socialist experiment of workers’ self-management in the Mediterranean!
Pizzeria Rumore
We conclude our visit to Labin with excellent pizza.
P.S. On weekends (and possibly on other days) be sure to book. ⁇
Route
We made a circular path for about 10 km.
We were expecting to find some asparagus, but we didn't see them. ⁇
