In the newspapers we read that the Festival of Forests and Forest Fruits is held in Brest with a special gastronomic offer and accompanying educational contents. For us, this is a good enough reason to explore Ćićariju On our journeys through Istria, we have mostly been bypassed so far.
However, before arriving at the festival in Brest, we will walk about 8 km along the planned circular trail.
Our starting point is Slum. The village that used to be full of inhabitants today counts barely 30 of them. We are talking to a local who lives in the first house at the entrance to the village. At the age of three, she decided to return to her “grandfather”. She says there's nothing more beautiful to her than Ćićarija. She is talkative and friendly, and her dog Aro is hospitable, who would love to go for a walk with us. But we don't want him to worry.
The village looks calm, peaceful, there is no squeaking or screaming, but we will go to the other side.
Nature exudes autumn scents and shades. Rest for eyes, soul, body.
We arrive at an elevation from which the view shoots miles away. It's enchanting.
We're on someone's property. We're moving with all due care. We visit a small, harmonious stone building and a neat garden without a fenced yard. And the photovoltaic plant is here.
The benches are giving us a break. We perpetuate this beauty and invigorate ourselves with teranium.
After breaking through a thicket that has not been cleared for some time, we break out onto a wider macadam road. Soon we are in front of a more modernly decorated facility that is intended for tourist rentals.
From the advertisement we write: here you can relax or be sporty active, ride a bike, hike, paragliding is 1 km from here, and some caves nearby can also be explored.
Living in the neighboring county allows us to come here on a one-day trip, but for all those who want to explore this part of Istria and live far away, this is certainly one of the good choices for multi-day accommodation.
Genetic Center Buzet
The route was intentionally included in the tour of this center. We sign everything we're already in. The newspapers read.
Object gaping empty. Broken, carved, overgrown. Everything that could be plucked from the objects was torn away. Negligence, devastation, mockery!
We hope that the new owner will have noble intentions, and rehabilitate and revive the devastated objects.
Brest
To Bresta by car, and judging by the increased traffic, a good attendance is expected.
As soon as they enter the village, the guards direct the visitors to the meadow parking lot. And from there we will walk to the school where today's events are centered.
Around the school were ordered exhibitors and sellers. We are hungry, so we are most interested in where we can eat something good and warm.
The festival glass is 2 Euro. Drinks are long-awaited, and portions of traditional food are small in relation to prices. Vegetarians also have something to choose from here, although the usual offer prevails. We choose fuži with venison stew, maneštra and veggie ‘svaštarluk’, which includes meatless sausage and a hated chestnut dessert with forest fruits.
It's cold, the sun will be setting soon, so we won't be here much longer. We'd rather have a dessert somewhere warmer along the way.
Permani
We turned to Sharp Fiorin in Permani on an excellent cheese strudel and coffee. ⁇
Kastav
By the way, on the way home, we stop on the hill of St. Michael in Kastav at the site where 21 May 1871 was held First camp of Croatians of Istria and Kvarner islands.
Route
It's a little burning, a little bit... just right. ⁇
