Buzet - 7 waterfalls

Buzet

The city of Buzet celebrates the City Day with a number of events, and Saturday is traditionally reserved for a folk festival called “Subotina po starinski”. For epidemiological reasons, this year it has been named “SUBOTinA by coronai’.

The program will take place in the old town. It will include an offer of Buzet oštarije that will offer traditional truffle fritoda, traditional music, meerkat and artifact on Pjacalet.

This is a good reason to visit Buzet.

Trail 7 waterfalls

Before visiting the town, we will walk the trail 7 waterfalls, about 15 km long, which some call the most beautiful in Istria. The weather is sunny, warm September, we expect the river Mirna to give us refreshment. We park in front of the Istrian Waterworks building, at 9:15 we activate our smart watches and start.

Before the bridge, we turn to the left, along the right bank of Mirna. No water, dried up.

There's just some stagnant ponds here and there. This part is flat, the trim track patiently awaits its trainees. We're not you. We are only at the beginning, so we wisely save strength.

The road is narrowing, we are soon in the woods. The cables on the rocks are set up for experienced climbers, but we enjoy nature grounded.

It does not flow, does not flow, does not flow any waterfall

Through narrow paths and bridges we come to the place where it should be Waterfall No. 1. – Zagon. But the murmur calmed down. Soon the location will follow. Waterfall No. 2. – Barrel. And he's gone.

To see the waterfalls you need to choose another time of year. This does not diminish the beauty of nature.

This is where the mine shafts are. You can enter, but the space is not decorated, there is no lighting. You can enter one entrance and exit the other. This is a beautiful monument to the time when coal was mined here. An information panel with a story and information about the (EU) financing of the development of this site would be welcome.

There is also a hanging bridge swaying slightly in the breeze. There are braves nearby!

Unfortunately, we skip the tour. 3. waterfall. We only saw the label: Vela peć, but no sign that it should be a waterfall. We were not allowed to do a detour because the most demanding part of the trail is ahead of us. Short and peppery. To overcome the height difference of 100 meters, we use cables, ropes, tin stairs, and all 4 when needed.

But at the top there is a view worthy of admiration. A blizzard in the palm of your hand.

Required selfies and proceed to 4. Waterfall - Small furnace.

On top of a demanding climb

The table and benches call for a respite, and irresponsible individuals for throwing garbage. Surrounded by a glass of Teranina, we continue our journey to Kotli.

Chefs

We were a little stunned, so we didn't hit the track right away. Consultation with a mobile phone corrects an error. The route leads to the part bounded by an orange strip.

In the middle of the forest abandoned TAM T-10. He's seen better days. An excellent truck, says a member of the team that “longed” him in the army.

We enter the village of Kuhari. The lie of the dogs from the cage gives a signal (to the owner) that the passers-by have arrived.

The host benevolently draws our attention that the route has been mislabelled. And the orange band was set up for a reason. Entrance is to private property. He asks where we're from and tells us he'll be in our area tomorrow. He's a bowler, they're playing Harbour Worker. You'll lose, we'll hit you. Prophecy and so on (op.a. Harbour worker - Selce Bračana 24:3 ?).

Boilers

We continue our journey 5th waterfall in Kotli. There is no water, so you can see well hollowed stone troughs. The old mill is a witness to the life that took place here.

The tavern works. Coffee and San Servolo inject extra power. 

This place is worth a closer look. Some old houses have been renovated, accommodation is offered. According to the 2011 census, the village had one population. What will this 2021 show?

We're good to go by now 6th waterfall - Zelenšćak. Instead of water, hikers jump on stones. There was a little water on the way. 7th Waterfall - Grjoku. Experience teaches that crossing Mirna at the back of the track can be tricky. This time, we are relaxed crossing a “river” that does not exist.

A member of the group is given a cell phone signal that he is now using the Slovenian network. How, we wonder. No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no ⁇

We enter the Buzet canyon, and this is also a sign that we are closing the circle.

We are again at the river Mirna, walking along the left bank.

Gastro moments

Pizzeria Hedgehog – excellent pizza and veggie pasta.

Aura Distillery

Look, miracles, we're within easy reach of the Aura distillery, which is a good place for a dysentery. It's worth a visit even if you haven't tried anything.

Oh, gorgeous! ?

Trail

One of the harder and more serious trails we've been hiking. It starts innocently, lightly along the coast of the landscaped Mirna, but by coming to the canyon things change significantly. Almost a vertical climb of 200m left us breathless. Forest paths are well marked, on all critical sections there are auxiliary ropes and fences. But it is certainly not for starting with small children or for walkers of poor fitness.

Sound and movement
